Reflection:

1. How have you felt attracted to someone else’s possessions recently?

2. What did it motivate you to do? How does Jesus free us from having to have more?

Following Up in the Word through the Week…

Monday:

Read: Exodus 20:17

How does this help you to define “covetousness”? What does this command release you from?

Tuesday:

Read: Luke 5:21-22

This passage is one example of the “self talk” that we saw in the message on Sunday that Jesus addressed directly. How does your “self talk” or thoughts exclude Jesus? How do you include Him?

Wednesday:

Read: James 4:13-17

What plans were being made without God’s input in this passage? What plans have you made without God’s input and what was their outcome?

Thursday:

Read: Matthew 5:5

What do people who are perceived as meek usually receive in this life? How is Jesus’ promise so different and how should you apply meekness in your life?

Friday:

Read: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

This is a “negative” passage. It is about who will “not” inherit. How is the list related to “covetousness”? What can you observe to be coveting in relationship to these behaviors?

Saturday:

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:50

Go back and read all of chapter 15. What do we inherit and how does that give you assurance and hope in your life today?
