“Satisfied” Clara Williams (Hymns of the Christian Life, 495)

“All my life long I had panted for a drink from some cool spring That I hoped would quench the burning of the thirst I felt within. Feeding on the husks around me till my strength was almost gone, Longed my soul for something better, only still to hunger on. Poor I was, and sought for riches, Something that would satisfy; But the dust I gathered round me Only mocked my soul’s sad cry. Well of water, ever springing, Bread of life, so rich and free. Untold wealth that never faileth, My Redeemer is to me.

Refrain: Hallelujah! I have found Him Whom my soul so long has craved! Jesus satisfies my longings; Through His blood I now am saved.”

1 Timothy 6:6-7

C. Promise of Presence (v. 27)

Revelation 21:6

Reflection:

1. As you think about the “years that the locusts have eaten”, what are some of the things that you feel you have lost to those years? Have you even thought the Lord can restore you?

2. Are you willing to return to the Lord as He invites you?

Follow Up in the Word through the Week…

Monday:

Read: Exodus 34:13-14

When you read that God is “jealous”, how can that reassure you of His love for you?

Tuesday:

Read: Job 1:21

What was Job responding to (read all of chapter 1)? How would you explain Job’s perspective of God’s control and his own loss?

Wednesday:

Read: Matthew 5:43-47

How does Jesus explain God’s grace to people whether they are just or unjust? How is God’s character supposed to influence our own (read verse 48)? How does Jesus’ explanation further help us to understand Job’s perspective from Job 1:21?

Thursday:

Read: Ruth 1:19-21

How does Naomi describe her loss? Does it seem to be the end for her where she is? What do you know about the rest of the book of Ruth and what happens for Naomi that changed Israel’s history and Christian history?

Friday:

Read: Hebrews 12:15

What do we risk if we embrace bitterness according to this verse? What image of bitterness is given in this verse?

Saturday:

Read: Revelation 21:6

What does Jesus mean when He says He is the “Alpha and Omega”? What does He promise the thirsty?
